The thing I love most about weddings is how each event is completely unique and reflective of that couple’s personality. So regardless of whether you keep your key elements classic and traditional or incorporate a trend of the moment (i.e. food trucks, donut walls), it’s all about how you execute it to align with your grand vision for the day.
As I’ve been planning our own wedding, I’ve found myself knee-deep in wedding magazines, blog sites, Pinterest boards, Instagram rabbit holes… and I’ve started to notice a few trends for 2019. Check them out below and feel free to comment with your predictions for the year ahead.
I love the way velvet bridesmaids dresses add soft texture to the overall aesthetic. This look is perfect for a fall or winter wedding and so versatile – whether you’re going for a cozy, holiday vibe or a moody, boho look definitely consider velvet in your approach. If velvet dresses are a little too far outside your comfort zone but you love the texture, consider velvet tablecloths or table runners for subtle inclusion into your decor.
Talk about Instagram-worthy. Most wedding signage is directional (reception this way, we’re having an unplugged ceremony, etc.) but don’t be afraid to have a little fun with your functional decor. Neon signage can help transition your wedding from day-to-night and add a little edge to your reception.
Palm leaf decor seems to be blowing up all over the place – from table runners to bouquets, this decor style is an easy way to add height and volume to any installation given the large size of leaves. It’s neutral-green color mixes easily with other florals but is also strong enough to stand-alone.
Personally, I love hats for all occasions but I am especially loving the boho bridal hat trend taking over my Instagram feed. It’s easy to incorporate into your big day as a chic accessory for your reception “look” and simple to DIY your own flower hat (flower crown 2.0). Still not convinced? Check out @officiallyquigley for some serious wedding hat inspo.
As a lover of paper goods and snail mail, this is potentially my fave trend prediction for 2019. In addition to incorporating vellum or acrylic into your invitation suite, consider it for day-of signage. If you’re concerned about readability, have no fear – painted and frosted acrylic are quickly taking over as the new trend to keep an eye out for.
Whether these trends are here to stay or just a craze for today, we’ll have to see. Regardless of their longevity, I love the creativity and ability to incorporate them into your big day. Go big with a palm leaf ceremony backdrop or keep it simple with a velvet table runner – after all, it’s your day.
