Sunday Morning Post by Emily Knecht
Simply put, I am a born and raised Alaskan, living in Washington. Passionate party planner, aspiring mixologist, snail mail aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, and slightly obsessed with my dog, Tex. Sunday Morning Post is two things – a hand lettering shop and a lifestyle blog.
What started as a means to track my travels as I was preparing for my big move from Anchorage, Alaska to Shreveport, Louisiana has evolved to a digital collection of my favorite things and memories.
More about the shop. I had been thinking about starting a hand-lettering shop for a while. Then December 2015, I took the very official step of making it my New Year Resolution for 2016 and there was no turning back.
All of the designs are greetings inspired by the people that inspire me and as I finalized these, I began researching the process for digitizing files and printing. From paper stock and ink technique to color and packaging, seeing how many different options were available opened up a whole world of creativity that I didn’t know existed. I am proud to say that down to the watercolor backgrounds, everything has been created by me.
Why Sunday Morning Post? Because Sunday mornings are the time when my best ideas come … and ironically is the only day you can’t send post.
In the short time since officially launching the shop on Etsy, I’ve learned that the original business model I started with may not be the best and I’ve had to pivot with what clients are asking for (custom signage) and expand upon wholesale relationships and opportunities.
Learning the basics of back-end website design, developing my writing and photography style, putting into practice all of the marketing techniques and advice I give to clients, and wearing the many hats a one-woman-shop requires has challenged and rewarded me in so many ways. I can’t wait to see what 2018 has to offer. Cheers!
